Proverbs 17:17
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Reflection
Everyone needs friends and hopes that they have the best confidant. It is said in Proverbs 17:17, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Actual friendships can stand the test and environment of time. Without friends, we will be lonely in our life path. Instead, those who have good friends won’t fall down, even if they suffer setbacks.
On the path of believing in God, we need more spiritual friends—brothers and sisters in Christ. We can share with one another our stories and emotions that are either happy or sad. When something we can’t deal with happens, we can support and help each other. Of course, there are principles if we want to love each other.
Then, how should we do can be after God’s heart? I want to share a passage with everyone: “Mutual love between brothers and sisters should be built on the principle of the truth. Our words and actions should be in line with the truth. We need to take truth as our criteria without emotions, cunning or deceit, or mutual exploitation; Those who love each other can often fellowship about the truth, encourage and help each other in our life entry and do not argue over gain or loss; Though there are unavoidably mistakes when getting along with others, we can mutually tolerate and forgive each other, seek the truth together, and act in union for the same goal. We can open our hearts to each other without prejudice and become partners in life, encouraging and obeying each other because of frequent fellowship of the truth. This is the expression of loving each other that we ought to have. If brothers and sisters really share common ideas, they can establish the relationship of loving each other. If there’s mutual love between brothers and sisters, they can have normal fellowships, seek and look into the truth together. They don’t conspire with each other to do things against the truth or follow the sinners, but make progress hand in hand to satisfy God’s will. If anyone mistakenly harm us, we can mutually tolerate each other and forgive each other. If someone does anything that violates the truth and harms the interests of the church, we shouldn’t cover it up, but directly point out his transgression through communicating the truth, so that he can have the chance to repent what he has done and start anew. This is truly loving each other.”
The ability of each individual is limited, no one can achieve perfection, so it requires brothers and sisters to help each other. Hope that brothers and sisters can love each other and grow together.
